University Courses

Working in cooperation with Austria's universities, the Film Museum regularly hosts and organizes academic courses and seminars.
 
From 2004 to 2007 the Film Museum co-organized a series of 40 academic lectures entitled Film and Cinema in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Management and Cultural Studies (Vienna University of Music and Dramatic Arts), the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies (University of Vienna) and the Department of Contemporary History (University of Vienna). The series focussed on the status of archives and film materials and demonstrated exemplary methods of working with and analysing original film artefacts.
 
Since 2003, the Film Museum organizes a yearly four-day course as part of the curriculum of theatre, film and media studies at the University of Vienna. These seminars have taken place under the following titles:

Winter 2003/04: The Material Ghost
Winter 2004/05: Movie Mutations
Winter 2005/06: Independent Film
Winter 2006/07: Film (in the) Museum. Film as Event, Film as Artefact
Winter 2007/08: The Realm of the Dead - Second Lives in Cinema
Winter 2008/09: Movie Metabolism. Documentary film, poetic reality, and the reality of cinematic experience 
Winter 2009/09: Film Curatorship
