Films by Ann Hui
Ann Hui (*1947) is a filmmaker whose total body of work is larger than the sum of its individual parts. Like all major filmmakers, her work can be divided into cycles that rhyme with each other. Genre films comprise roughly a half of Hui's filmography: action movies, ghost stories, melodramas, thrillers, war films, horror, wuxia... After all, she belongs to the Hong Kong tradition, which thrives on turning popular genre cinema into art.
