Bilderlust. A film series for the symposium "Screenwise"

The international conference "Screenwise" (May 15 to 18) deals with contemporary scenarios in feminist film theory and practice. Lectures will be given by scholars such as Christine Gledhill, Laura Mulvey, Bérenice Reynaud and Heide Schlüpmann. The programme also includes a number of workshops and podium discussions.
The film series entitled "Bilderlust" (The Pleasure of Images) will be an integral component of the conference, and will devote its attention primarily to radical forms of female desire. Curated by Katja Wiederspahn, it includes definitive works by such artists as Chantal Akerman, Marguerite Duras, Valie Export, Eva Heldmann, Su Friedrich, Laura Mulvey, as well as a sensational rediscovery from the year 1972: Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan, a violent and passionate Hong Kong melodrama on prostitution and ‘Liebestod’.
"Screenwise", conceived and organised by Monika Bernold Andrea B. Braidt, Brigitte Mayr and Claudia Preschl, is a joint presentation of SYNEMA, VfW and IKM in cooperation with the Film Museum and the Kunsthalle Wien/Project Space
