The historical epic Sanshō dayū (1954), set in medieval Japan, is one of the pivotal films in the later works of the Japanese master Kenji Mizoguchi. The legendary German film critic and historian Helmut Färber, who has published several important works on Mizoguchi, will introduce the film on April 5. The following day he will give a lecture on this rarely screened work.
