The Present

Film Museum on Location:

MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation

October 19 to 25, 2012

Following the recent invitation by the Venice Biennale to present our restoration of James Benning's American Dreams (1984) at the 69th Mostra di Venezia, the Austrian Film Museum has now been invited as a guest archive at the Tenth MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation in New York. Four curated programs of works from the collection, including several recent restorations, will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art between October 19th and 25th. Among others, the selection includes works by Robert Breer, Forugh Farrokhzad, Robert Florey & Peter Lorre, Robert Frank, Peter Kubelka, Dušan Makavejev, Norbert Pfaffenbichler, Ulrich Seidl, Josef von Sternberg and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, as well as restored amateur films and anonymous documents. One of the four programs – The Clock, or: 89 minutes of ‘Free Time’ – is dedicated to the great Vienna-born curator, writer and teacher Amos Vogel who came to the United States as an exile in 1938 and passed away in New York in April 2012.

The Festival “To Save and Project: The Tenth MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation” will take place from October 11 through November 12, 2012 at the Museum of Modern Art.
