A Sixth Part of the World | The Eleventh Year

Dziga Vertov
Price: EUR 29,90
Price for supporting members*: EUR 23,90
Celebrating the completion of a multi-year research project, Digital Formalism - The Vienna Vertov Collection in January 2010, the Austrian Film Museum and the project partners presented this 2-disc set. The DVD is the result of a highly productive "meeting of the minds" - upon the suggestion of the Film Museum, British composer Michael Nyman has created new scores for two classics made in 1926 and 1928 by the Soviet filmmaker and theorist Dziga Vertov – Šestaja čast' mira (A Sixth Part of the World) and Odinnadcatyj (The Eleventh Year). The films and music both appear on DVD for the first time and are accompanied by extensive bonus materials. Following the award-winning Film Museum DVD on Vertov's Ėntuziazm, this new release aims to contribute to the international renaissance of the filmmaker's oeuvre.

"This comprehensive, expertly compiled edition does two of Vertov's most obscure, unseen, and thrilling films exactly the justice they deserve." (Film Quarterly)

"The extras, once again, demonstrate Edition Filmmuseum's ability to find and/or produce the best contextualising materials. All told, an excellent package." (DVD Times)

"The relentless quality of Vertov's films, mostly composed of short static shots, is effectively underlined by the exuberant new Michael Nyman scores. An immaculate presentation." (Sight & Sound)
