About the Association

The Austrian Film Museum is an association (ZVR number: 778704125).

Founding of the Association

The Security Directorate in Vienna granted permission to form an association on February 18, 1964. This form of organization was chosen in order to clarify our non-commercial orientation and to create a clear distinction from operators of commercial cinemas with regards to the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). Screenings were initially not open to the public but were dependent on a year-long membership. The first meeting of the Austrian Film Museum Association convened on February 26, 1964 and elected Heinrich Wille as chairman, Hermann Kert from the Austrian Student Union as deputy chairman, and Peter Konlechner and Peter Kubelka as board members.
