Brothers in Marxism
Films by Dovshenko, Eisenstein, Pabst, Vertov and the Marx Brothers

December 26 to 30, 2003

The period between Christmas and New Year's at the Film Museum is unthinkable without the Marx Brothers; this has been the case for the past 30 years and the tradition continues in 2003. Like last year, this edition will again present the Marx Brothers’ films in the company of selected German and Soviet classics: works by Sergei Eisenstein, G.W. Pabst, Alexander Dovshenko and Dziga Vertov, who at the same time as the anarchistic brothers were dealing with a different kind of Marxism. Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Karl: cinema as a kind of transatlantic revolutionary movement.
