50 Years of the Medien Archive Austria

The Medien Archive Austria (MAA), the umbrella organization of Austrian audiovisual archives, museums, and collections, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and the Film Museum will host the festivities. Since its founding, the MAA has advocated for the preservation and cataloguing of the audio and visual documents that make up Austria's cultural memory, ensuring they remain visible and audible.
The evening offers a glimpse into the history and work of the MAA and its members as well as a lecture by renowned media studies scholar Professor Carolyn Birdsall, PhD (University of Amsterdam). Under the programmatic title Future-proofing the AV Archive in Uncertain Times, she will make suggestions for the future of media archiving. Her lecture will be followed by an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the challenges faced in preserving audiovisual heritage in the upcoming decades. And we will toast 50 years of the MAA!
