UTIn a near future, an anthropologist, with wife and child, accepts an invitation to Patagonia to research a dying indigenous language. Ruiz makes good use of the minimal plot for aesthetic experimentation and parody. Patagonia, accompanied by pristine music, is comparable to a Dutch marshland, the heroic researcher realizes too late that the "primitive" research objects fulfill his expectations a bit too exactly, the communist landowner nostalgically behaves like a feudal lord – and off-screen, shots are fired. An intellectual "puzzle" thrown together in just 24 days, not least about the state of Ruiz's home continent. (B.K.)
