The work of Hong Kong-born artist and filmmaker Tiffany Sia encompasses film, installation, and text, combining forms of visual storytelling with critical theory. Starting from historical research, archival footage, and field and sound recordings, she investigates how images and sounds form history – and where official documents and visual recordings hit their limits. Sia draws on filmic traditions ranging from road movies and landscape films to travelogues and documentary reportage, reconfiguring their conventions in the process. Her practice is based on the conviction that spaces are never neutral, but instead constructed, remembered, and contested. She pays special attention to the geopolitical divisions of the Cold War and the question of how the media, law, and geography mark our perception of history and political spaces. Sia's works are present internationally in exhibition and film contexts. She has had recent solo exhibitions at the Cantor Arts Center and MUDAM Luxembourg (both 2025) as well as Artists Space (2021). Her works have been shown at MoMA PS1 and Museum Brandhorst (2026) as well as the Fondazione Prada and MoMA (2023). Her films have run at the Glasgow International Short Film Festival (2026), Toronto International Film Festival (2024, 2022) and New York Film Festival (2026, 2022, 2021).
