In October 1998, the Film Museum and the Viennale jointly presented a major retrospective of the films of the radical and influential French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard (*1930). Among the guests was Godard's ex-wife, actress Anna Karina (1940–2019), who starred in many of his key films from Le Petit Soldat (1960) to Made in U.S.A. (1966) and became an iconic figure of the Nouvelle Vague in the process. In this clip, Karina who in addition to her award winning acting career is also a noted singer, novelist and director recounts her first encounter with the enigmatic director.
