Liberation Footage – Atrocity Pictures

Tuesday, 23. January, 10:00-12:00

Age 16 plus
What did American, British, and Soviet soldiers see when they liberated the concentration camps in April and May 1945? And what did they not see? What were they unable to see? What did they single out? And what do we see when we look at their footage and the films made from it? Using both known and until now hardly seen film clips, we will consider how images have impacted our perception of the Holocaust and how digital technologies can help open up contexts and levels of meaning in and around these important historical sources.
