Age 15 plus
Mo Harawe has been an integral part of the Austrian film scene since 2012, having made impressive short films about interpersonal problems of people abroad, in migration, and in Somalia, where he was born. Problems which, despite cultural differences, are the same everywhere in the world. This year, with his first feature, The Village Next to Paradise, he made it to the Cannes Film Festival and beyond. "Who can even dream about making films? As a kid, you have to find yourself in circumstances in which it is possible to get the idea. Dreaming is the first door," he reflected in an interview on what you need for it to be possible to become a filmmaker. And in another: "For a long time, I tried to do it like everyone else. It’s easy to get lost that way. But I want to do my own thing." With a selection of short films and excerpts from his debut feature, Mo Harawe will outline his creative process and the path to the feature and answer student questions.
