Dialogue d'exilés (Dialogues of the Exiled)
Regie, Drehbuch: Raúl Ruiz; Kamera: Gilberto Orzello de Avezedo; Schnitt: Valeria Sarmiento; Darsteller*innen: Françoise Arnoul, Carla Oristi, Daniel Gélin, Sergio Hernández. FR, 1974, DCP (von 16mm), Farbe, 105 min. Spanisch/Französisch mit engl. UTChilean exiles play themselves in this series of sequences that, around a minimal plot, imagines with clear-sighted irony the life of the newly-arrived in Paris. The staging, set in narrow spaces with entrances and exits through even narrower hallways, doors and even windows, stirs up claustrophobia. It is about themes of geographical and cultural displacement, bigotry and philistinism of left-wing politics, and of course Chile itself. The film quotes Bertolt Brecht's "Refugee Conversations" in its title, but it was also Ruiz's first work after his forced exodus in 1974 and is considered the first ever exile film of the Pinochet era.
