A Valparaiso movie theater fluttered with birds, where the screams of tortured people can be heard from the police station behind the screen over the soundtrack of projected B-movies. A former anti-Pinochet fighter, in-between his dreams on the bed of a darkened hotel room, tries to reactivate buried memories of clandestine knowledge. Calderón de la Barca's baroque drama Life is a Dream is the technical mnemonic device, which is recited and also staged in a theatrical performance in the film. A post-surrealist and many-mirrored meditation on cinema, resistance and memory. (S.H.)
