Montage

From Cinematic Narratives to Visual Poetry

For all ages starting age 11
"Montage" emphasizes the act of combining two things while the term "edit" points to the act of fragmentation. Films can create connections. Montage creates order. It can transfer us from one room to another in the blink of an eye and can make years go by in just a second. It is rare for any of this to impress us. This lecture will deal with montage's ability to tell stories, manipulate us, and transform the recorded world into a cinematic poem.
