Following the Oscar-winning Ida (2013) and the multi-award-winning Cold War (2018), director Paweł Pawlikowski impressively continues his micro-studies of the postwar European order in Fatherland (2026). The film tells, in fictionalized form, the story of Thomas Mann and Erika Mann's journey to West and East Germany in 1949. Fatherland won the Best Director Award at the 2026 Cannes International Film Festival.
