In Person:

Borjana Ventzislavova

November 5 and 6, 2025

Combining their programs In Person and FOCUS ON, sixpackfilm, Breitenseer Lichtspiele and the Austrian Film Museum jointly present for the first time the work of Austrian-Bulgarian film artist Borjana Ventzislavova, whose works have already been showcased worldwide in numerous exhibitions and festivals for film and media art, including Belvedere 21, MAK, National Gallery Sofia, Kunstforum Wien, ICA London, transmediale Berlin, and IDFA.

In her work, Ventzislavova always examines current socio-political topics, which she navigates via docu-fictional narratives. A central motif of her short films is the exploration of social identity, marginalization, intellectual participation, and power structures. By interweaving documentary footage, staged actions, voice-over, and texts, she investigates the relationship between imagination and real practices, and in so doing questions the construction of social realities.

The second focus of the program is the Vienna premiere of Ventzislavova's debut feature film New News from Another Home from 2024, an homage to Chantal Akerman's exhilarating 1976 essay film News from Home. Almost fifty years after Ackerman read out over footage of New York letters which her mother sent her during her first stay in the foreign city, Ventzislavova picks up the motifs in a personal journey through the celebrated work, tying them into her own family history.
