Here Be Dragons (2013)

Director: Mark Cousins; Screenplay: Mark Cousins, Thomas Logoreci; Cinematography: Cousins, Gentian Koci; With: Mark Cousins, Iris Elezi, Thomas Logoreci, Fatmir Koci. DCP, color, 79 min

In 2012, Irish cinema writer and filmmaker Mark Cousins was invited to serve as juror for Albania's national film festival. Cousins took advantage of the opportunity to traverse the capital, Tirana, and its outskirts, recording hours of footage of galleries, street life and the notorious pyramid, the ruined, flying-saucer-like monument built in honor of the former leader, Enver Hoxha. His first-person essay doc is a striking rumination on the complex legacy of communism for Albanian cinema and film artists like Xhanfise Keko.
