This is a series of talks about the lives and work of women film pioneers from all branches of the industry who have left their mark on Austrian film, but due to the lack of an ongoing canonization need to be discovered again and again. Their conversation partners are women from the film industry from the next generation or the generation after.
Makeup Artist Hannelore Uhrmacher
Hannelore Uhrmacher knew from a young age that she wanted to be a make-up artist. Her career path began with her studying to be a hairstylist and wig maker in Rudolf Schiff’s salon on Kärntner Straße. Later, Uhrmacher trained as a make-up artist at Theater an der Wien. From commercial jobs, she graduated to film and TV series, collaborating with directors such as Karin Brandauer, Luc Bondy, Marvin Chomsky, Axel Corti, Jacques Deray, VALIE EXPORT, Peter Patzak, Harald Sicheritz, Wim Wenders, and Susanne Zanke. Uhrmacher has worked on numerous international theater and TV productions, including in Italy, China, Japan, England, and Germany. She also did the make-up on legendary Austrian TV productions such as Kaisermühlen Blues and 4 Frauen und ein Todesfall, as well as the opera adaptation La Bohème. Today, she still works in theater and on musical productions such as West Side Story, Hairspray, and We Will Rock You – excited to work with and transforming people, and guided by her motto: "You need to burn for this job." Following the screening of the film Menschenfrauen (1979, VALIE EXPORT), makeup artist Birgit Hirscher (Zuagroast – Ein Gartenkrimi, Tatort, MA 2412) and curator Julia Pühringer will speak with Hannelore Uhrmacher.
